SFO COVID-19 Testing Information

  1. You are responsible for understanding the testing requirements for your travel destination and should request the required test during your visit.
  2. A Dignity Health-GoHealth Urgent Care team member will conduct an evaluation when you arrive for testing. Once the evaluation is complete, you will receive a nasal swab on-site. Test results will be provided on-site in approximately 15-50 minutes depending on the test you received.
  3. Walk up to the testing site for a same-day visit or schedule an evaluation up to 7 days in advance (Rapid Molecular NAAT only).
  4. Rapid PCR COVID-19 is available on a walk-up basis only until 5pm on weekdays and 3pm on weekends. Based on destination criteria, travelers who visit the airport can get a PCR COVID-19 test depending on availability. Test results take approximately 50 minutes.

As an approved Hawaii Trusted Testing and Travel Partner, we offer on-site Rapid COVID-19 Testing at SFO - with results in 15 minutes - for travelers interested in avoiding the mandatory 10-day quarantine period upon arrival to the islands. After completion of your rapid test, your results must be uploaded to your Safe Travels Hawai’i account prior to arriving in Hawaii. Looking For the COVID-19 Testing Location?

The Dignity Health-GoHealth Urgent Care Rapid COVID-19 Testing site is located in the International Terminal, Level 3, Aisle 6. If you are coming from outside the International Terminal, we recommend utilizing the convenient AirTrain, as it's the quickest way of travel throughout the airport. Once you arrive in the International Terminal, follow the signs down to Level 3 and proceed to Aisle 6. 

The testing location is approximately 15-20 minutes away from the domestic airline check-in desk, please plan accordingly.

Can I get a PCR test at SFO?

We offer Rapid PCR COVID-19 testing for walk up visitors until 5pm on weekdays and 3pm on weekends. Based on destination criteria, travelers who visit the airport can get a PCR COVID-19 test depending on availability. Test results take approximately 50 minutes and costs $275 at the time of the test.

Which insurance plans are accepted?

Billing insurance is only available to SFO employees. All passengers will be required to pay $225 for Rapid Molecular NAAT COVID-19 Testing prior to their visit. A payment link will be sent in advance via text message. If the payment link you received is not working or showing an error, please proceed to the testing site at your scheduled time and pay by credit card.

Rapid PCR COVID-19 Testing is $275 and can be paid on-site by credit card.

For SFO Employees, we are in-network with the following health plans: Aetna, Anthem, Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, UnitedHealthcare and many more.

Do I have to pay for a COVID-19 test if I'm an employee?

SFO staff members getting tested on-site will need to provide their health insurance information, as testing will be billed through insurance. If you don't have insurance, affordable same-day rates are available. 

How do I save my spot if I'm not an SFO employee?

If you are not an SFO employee and would like to schedule a Rapid COVID-19 test onsite at SFO, please select: Airline Passenger COVID-19 (Not-UA) as your visit reason. 

Where do I go to get tested?

The SFO testing site is located at the international terminal, level 3, aisle 6. 

How long will I have to wait for my results?

  • Rapid Molecular NAAT results will be available in approximately 15 minutes.
  • Rapid PCR results will be available in approximately 50 minutes.

If you choose not to wait at the testing site for paper results, they will be available on the Patient Portal within 24 hours.

Do you have antibody testing available at SFO?

No, we are not currently offering the COVID-19 antibody test on-site at SFO. If you'd like to receive an antibody test, please schedule a visit at one of our 10 centers in the Bay Area.

Can I receive a COVID-19 Rapid Test if I work for the City or County of San Francisco at SFO?

City and County of San Francisco Employees are eligible for COVID-19 Rapid Tests.

How early can I get tested?

For on-site SFO testing, we recommend passengers coordinate their test on the same day of their flight. You may schedule at any open timeslot, but we recommend reserving a spot 2-3 hours before your departure time, as testing will be closed 90 minutes prior to your departure time. You can also walk up to our testing site on the day of your departure for a same-day evaluation and test.

For Hawaii Passengers - The Hawaii Department of Health will accept negative test results from COVID-19 tests completed within 72 hours of flight arrival time. 

How far in advance can I schedule my clinical evaluation and test?

Currently, you have the option to schedule the clincial evaluation and rapid COVID-19 test at SFO 7 days prior to your travel date. If you choose to get tested at one of our local centers, scheduling is available 48 hours in advanced. You can also walk-up to the testing site for an evaluation and test.

Do I have to complete an evaluation first or can I just request testing?

We require a clinical evaluation before your COVID-19 test to assure the best clinical care. We will provide you with a rapid COVID-19 test after your on-site clinical evaluation.

What type of Rapid Molecular NAAT COVID-19 Test is administered at SFO?

At the SFO Testing site, our staff administers the Anterior Nare - Sars-CoV-2 RNA Assay, Nucleic Acid Amplification Test using the Abbott ID NOW technology. This test is approved for the Safe Travels Hawai’i program.

We also offer the Rapid PCR COVID-19 test for walk-up visitors.
