Important COVID-19 Information

Center Visit Process: What you need to know

  1. If you have symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, chills, sore throat or body aches), please schedule a Virtual Visit to find out if you should be tested based on CDC and state testing guidelines. We are now offering curbside COVID-19 testing with a referral from our Virtual Visits provider.

  2. If you do not have COVID-19 symptoms, please save your spot online to be seen at one of our centers. This will save you time and help us safely prepare for you and other patients.

  3. If you cannot check-in online, please come into one of our centers and sign-in at our kiosk by the front door.

Please note: If you do NOT have symptoms of COVID-19, or if you test positive for flu, you will not be tested for COVID-19. As testing supplies are limited, you also cannot be tested for COVID-19 to satisfy your employer’s requirements if you do NOT meet testing criteria.

Frequently Asked Questions on COVID-19 Testing

Q: Can I get tested for COVID-19 at your locations?

A:  Yes, we are offering curbside COVID-19 testing via a referral by one of our Virtual Visit providers at our Avon and South Windsor centers only. If you have symptoms of COVID-19 (fever with cough and/or shortness of breath) please schedule a Virtual Visit to be evaluated to see if testing is clinically appropriate for you based on CDC and state guidelines.

Q: Can I walk in for a test?

A: No, please do not walk-in to be tested. Schedule a Virtual Visit to find out if testing is clinically appropriate for you based on CDC and state guidelines. We are only offering curbside COVID-19 testing with a referral from a Virtual Visit provider.

Q: How long do I have to wait for test results if I do get tested?

A: COVID-19 swabs are sent to a lab for testing. Test results are available within 2-3 days.

No Out-Of-Pocket Costs For Virtual Visits With Medicare and Medicaid!

During this public health emergency surrounding COVID-19, Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries can now book a Virtual Visit or telemedicine appointments for zero out-of-pocket cost. Receive the same great care from a Hartford HealthCare-GoHealth Urgent Care provider or teledoc from the safety of your home. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms such as fever with a cough and/or shortness of breath, we encourage you to schedule a Virtual Visit instead of visiting a healthcare center.

If your symptoms are severe (trouble breathing, chest pain, fainting, uncontrollable pain), you should seek emergency care right away at your nearest ER.

Frequently Asked Question

How does a Virtual Visit work?

Similar to WhatsApp, Skype and FaceTime, a Virtual Visit allows you to meet with a provider via video when you can’t make it to one of our centers. Like an in-person visit, a Virtual Visit can be made same-day with no appointment necessary. 15 minutes before your session starts, you will receive an email and/or a text message with a direct link to your video session. Click the link to enter your date of birth and electronically sign any consent form. When you connect to the video session, your provider will be notified and will join.

What conditions do Virtual Visits cover?

Providers can care for the following areas in a Virtual Visits: allergies, asthma, wheezing, animal or insect bites (minor), bronchitis, respiratory infection, colds, cough, flu, mild fever, earache, headache, nausea, pink eye, eye infection, poison oak, poison ivy, rash, skin infection, sinus infections, sore throat, laryngitis, sprains & strains, and urinary tract infection (UTIs).

How much does a Virtual Visit cost?

Virtual Visits have zero cost to patients under Medicare/Husky Health (Medicaid) and most other major insurance plans during the public health emergency.

Virtual Visits are also in-network with Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Medicare, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, Connecticare, Harvard Pilgrim, Medicare and Hartford HealthCare insurance through Aetna. Without coverage, a Virtual Visit costs $60. If your Virtual Visit results in a provider directed visit to one of our physical locations, the copay or $60 payment is applied to the in-center visit cost if you visit within 24 hours.

When can I access a Virtual Visit?

Virtual Visits are available Monday-Friday 8am-8pm and Saturday-Sunday 9am-5pm. You can schedule a Virtual Visit up to 24 hours in advance.

What devices do I need?

You will need a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop w/ internet connection (webcam and mic necessary if using a desktop). Google Chrome is the preferred browser, but Internet Explorer and Firefox are also compatible.

Who can be seen via a Virtual Visit?

Anyone over the age of 1-year-old who is physically located within Connecticut at the time of the Virtual Visit can be seen.

How is the after-visit summary handled with a Virtual Visit?

The after-visit summary (AVS) is available to the patient via Epic MyChart. A Hartford HealthCare-GoHealth Virtual Care Coordinator (VCC) will work with patients to ensure they have a MyChart account created.

Can I receive prescriptions from a Virtual Visit?

If your provider deems it necessary, prescriptions are handled in the same manner as an in-person visit and are delivered electronically to the patient's pharmacy. Narcotics may not be prescribed during a Virtual Visit.

Is a Virtual Visit the same thing as telehealth or telemedicine?

Our Virtual Visit services fall under the telemedicine category, defined by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) as “the practice of medicine using technology to deliver care at a distance.” Where as, telehealth is defined as “electronic and telecommunications technologies and services used to provide care and services at-a-distance.” Our providers and teledoctors are experienced with the tools and technology to provide the same amazing care you’d find in one of our centers.
