Memorial Hermann-GoHealth’s Betsy Koickel, MD, Honored with Visionary Award

HOUSTON – Betsy Koickel, MD, was recently named winner of the 2023 Experity Limelight Visionary Award

Dr. Koickel is the medical director of Memorial Hermann-GoHealth Urgent Care. She oversees clinical operations and quality for 30 centers across the Greater Houston area, including two pediatric urgent care centers.

"I feel truly honored to receive this award from my colleagues in the urgent care industry,” said Dr. Koickel. “The future of healthcare is for those who are fearless to try new things and continue to innovate in the spirit of improving overall health and the access to healthcare to all who live in our communities."

Experity is a national leader in healthcare solutions and the host of the Urgent Care Connect conference. Its Limelight Awards honor urgent care leaders who impact their communities and the industry through innovations focused on delivering patient-first urgent care. Dr. Koickel was selected for the Visionary Award for her leadership in implementing creative solutions and community support that results in real change and a positive patient experience.

Under Dr. Koickel’s leadership, Memorial Hermann-GoHealth has rapidly expanded access to quality on-demand care in communities around Houston. Over the past 18 months the urgent care network expanded from nine to 30 centers, providing reliable access to quality, which is crucial to the overall health and vitality of a community.

Throughout this rapid expansion, Dr. Koickel and her team have also improved patient satisfaction by streamlining and removing the hurdles patients often experience when trying to access healthcare.

“It is fitting that Dr. Koickel was recognized under the visionary category,” said Manny Singh, regional president for GoHealth Urgent Care. “She is an innovator who uses her deep knowledge of healthcare trends to assess patient needs and tailor our care offerings to meet those needs. Her experience and meticulous planning ensure Memorial Hermann-GoHealth is well-prepared to serve our communities.”

Dr. Koickel has served as Memorial Hermann-GoHealth's medical director since its inception in 2022. Previously, she served as associate medical director for Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care in New York. She was named the 2022 Frontline Medical Hero of the Year by the Stevie Awards for Women in Business, a world premier program that honors the achievements of women executives and the organizations they run.

“Dr. Koickel is a leader who practices servant leadership and leads with conviction,” Singh said. “It has been a pleasure to work with her and I look forward to her future accomplishments.”
