Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care and CityMD have signed a definitive agreement to combine operations, bringing together complementary urgent care services for patients across the New York metropolitan area. Moving forward, Northwell Health-GoHealth and CityMD will focus on improving access to quality care and enhancing patient experience across the region. The combination is subject to customary regulatory review.

The combination brings together Northwell-GoHealth's technology and coordinated care model with CityMD's patient-centered approach to urgent care services including aftercare. The result: more ways for patients to access care when and where they need it, with better coordination between visits.

"This combination represents an opportunity to improve how we serve New York communities," said Todd Latz, Chief Executive Officer, GoHealth Urgent Care. "Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care brings strong clinical capabilities and a focus on innovation. CityMD has built deep trust with its patient-centered approach. Together, we can offer more access, better touchpoints for follow up care and a more seamless experience for the people we are fortunate to serve."

What this means for New York Communities

The combined network will give patients across the region:

  • Increased access to urgent care services, making it easier to get care for illnesses, injuries, testing and preventive services;
  • A more robust alternative to emergency departments for non-emergent conditions at a lower cost;
  • Online scheduling and digital tools that make it faster to book and receive care; and
  • Better follow-up and care coordination between visits when needed.

For clinicians and care teams, the combined organization will offer:

  • Connection to a larger network of colleagues and specialists, with the ability to work across more locations;
  • Expanded career growth and leadership opportunities; and
  • Enhanced training and professional development programs.

“This agreement reinforces our joint commitment to expanding access to quality, patient-centered care, said Adam Boll, Senior Vice President, of Northwell’s Strategic Business Initiatives. “By coming together, we will be able to offer patients greater access to the care they need and together we'll be able to serve our communities in ways neither organization could do alone."

Building the Future of Urgent Care

Together, the combined organization will work to advance urgent care services through better and more aligned technology, closer clinical coordination and a focus on making care easier for patients to access and navigate.

Patients will continue to experience the convenience of a neighborhood urgent care center, with the added benefit of streamlined access to a wider range of services and follow-up care.
"We want to make it easier for people to get the care they need, close to home, and combining CityMD and GoHealth creates even more care options,” said Chris Sclafani, Chief Executive Officer, CityMD. "This combination will put us in a stronger position to serve more patients across New York."

Until completion of the transaction, the two organizations will continue to operate independently.
